José ( David) Rubio 1965

Rare guitars always seem to arrive in pairs. I had two Hernandez y Aguados last year, two 1960’s Fletas, and now I have two 1965 José ( David) Rubios!
Both Spruce top Brazilian rosewood 650 scale.
Both these guitars are from his finest New York period. The tone is really something special that you only find in great 20th century master built spruce guitars.
Julian Bream chose a 1965 Rubio over his Bouchet and Hauser to record his milestone album “ Music of the 20th century.
When Rubio moved back to the UK in the late 60’s he started making long scale guitars. They are still magnificent concert instruments but weren’t taken up by the Asian market that drove the prices of collectable guitars sky high in the 1990’s therefore you can still pick up a Rubio under $20,000 even a 650 scale one.
